Western Sahara Hunger Strike — Day 1

By Tim Pluta and Ruth McDonough, May 5, 2022

The goal of this hunger strike is to bring attention to Boujdour, Western Sahara, Africa in support of Sultana Khaya, her sister Lwaara, their mother Mitou, and all Saharawi people.

Western  Sahara is currently illegally occupied by Morocco.

Sultana nonviolently protests the illegal occupation of her homeland.

During this time Moroccan security agents have plastic strip bound Mitou’s hands behind her back and forced her to watch them rape her daughters. Agents have also broken and entered the Khaya family home.

Sultana is a nonviolent Saharawi peace activist whose present list of demands for the occupying forces of Morocco is simple:

1. Permanently stop the rapes in her home.

2. Permanently end the seige of her home.

3. Allow an independent, non-partisan, international human rights organization to enter the home to investigate and report what has happened for the public record.

We start this hunger strike on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 in solidarity with Sultana and the Saharawi people. We turn the reporting over to them.
