How did you get involved with anti-war activism and World BEYOND War (WBW)?

I hadn’t been involved in any anti-war activism prior to my experience with World BEYOND War. I managed to hear about WBW on a whim and I am so happy to have been able to join such an extensive and caring group of individuals who are so passionate about abolishing the institution of war. I hesitate to say that my level of activism is on par with others in the organization, but I am just getting started and am looking forward to more involvement in anti-war efforts.

What kinds of volunteer activities do you help with?

Currently, I work with the Events and Articles team to publish anti-war events around the world on the WBW portal page for activists to see for themselves. Alongside this, I have been involved with RootsAction.org and Norman Soloman doing volunteer research on intercontinental ballistic missiles in the US and Russia and how we can bring about disarmament.

What’s your top recommendation for someone who wants to get involved with WBW?

If you want to get involved with WBW just reach out to them. They are looking for seasoned activists who have been doing this for a long time as well as newcomers who are just getting their feet wet. I hadn’t had any experience with anti-war activism prior to my time with WBW and now I feel as though I am making some sort of difference by informing people of how they can be involved in anti-war efforts.

What keeps you inspired to advocate for change?

Just knowing that it’s possible for the world to change and seeing other people want to bring about that change keeps me inspired. Sometimes it’s easy to grow disillusioned with the world and think that change is impossible, but WBW does a good job of being realistic while also knowing that bringing about change is possible.

How has the coronavirus pandemic impacted your activism?

The Pandemic has made it difficult for people around the world to work with one another in a more intimate setting. I think this intimacy exists even more in an activist setting and, as such, activist events have been harder to organize and it’s been harder to inform people of activist events. That’s why I think the WBW Events page is so important because as the world starts to open up, you are able to see more easily where events around the world are taking place.
